From Foundation to Railing

Deck Foundation

Many composite decks rely on concrete footings that can settle or shift over time. Green Shield uses cement-free, engineered footing pads and ground screws placed below the frost line, ensuring the most structurally sound and supported build available.

Deck Framing

Standard deck builders often stop at minimum code, using builder-grade 4x4 posts. The Green Shield standard is high-grade number 1 Southern Yellow Pine 6x6s deck posts, and a deck frame that is kiln dried or “pre-shrunk.” Each deck post is protected with RotBloc wrapping at the most vulnerable rot zone where microorganisms and moisture reside.

Composite Decking

Not all composite decking performs the same. Many boards contain wood filler that absorbs and holds moisture, and are sealed improperly on the outside. Green Shield composite decking features a rice hull core that naturally resists water and is fully capped with an ultra high density molecular EPL resin along every surface. Integrated heat-blocking technology keeps boards cooler too, protecting your feet, and your pet’s, even on the hottest days.
