Rice hulls are one of Green Shield’s secret ingredients to a moisture resistant deck. While typical composite deck boards are built with wood filler that can absorb lots of moisture, our deck boards use rice hulls to naturally repel water.
Rice Hull
Rice hull is the outer protective layer of rice grains composed of silica and lignin. Because rice grows in a wet environment, the hull is naturally impervious to water, and protects the grain from moisture penetration. Rice hull is a byproduct of rice milling and provides an environmentally friendly construction material.
