The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) issues guidelines and standards for how long different types of materials should last under varied conditions. When choosing the right railing for your deck it is important to consider the AAMA ratings for the powder coating. Basic AAMA 2603 is considered adequate for internal use, but may not hold up in exterior applications. AAMA 2604 is durable and intended for handrails and high contact situations. AAMA 2605 signifies the highest ratings for powder coating offering extreme resistance to fading and scratching.
