Green Shield’s composite boards are ideal for connecting outdoor spaces or creating paths around your home. While walkways can require less work than an entire deck, there may be more factors to consider than meet the eye.

What to Consider When Building
Walkway Decks
Elevation and substructure play a key role in walkway-building. Traditional wood or composite joists may need to be placed closer together in order to achieve a stable base, but Green Shield composite boards and KDAT frame are designed to handle any terrain in our standard pattern.
An ideal walkway is installed as low to the ground as possible, but this presents many challenges for traditional boards. Joists maintain direct contact with the ground and do not receive the proper gapping to allow for ventilation, expansion, or contraction. This quickly leads to moisture absorption and rot. To prevent this, our joists are treated with a high copper concentration for durability, and our composite boards are fully encapsulated.
Utilizing Green Shield composite for walkways means they’ll integrate seamlessly with your deck. And because we use hidden fasteners, the top of your deck boards will be free of unsightly screws.

Green Shield Deck Builders is able to construct new decks during the winter months by planning ahead. The entire design of our Winter Reskin program is to make sure the right kinds of projects are scheduled for cold weather construction in the right geographical areas. Our crews also have years of experience building decks in the winter. As dedicated craftsmen, Green Shield crews work to keep their skills in top form all winter long, braving the elements and getting the job done right.
Other construction companies do not have the volume of work or expertise needed to build in the winter. Most construction crews would rather take a long break over the winter months. Green Shield’s craftsmen have chosen instead to continue building as part of America's #1 deck builder.
