The Story That Inspired Fred’s Friends

Fred didn’t have it easy. Living as a stray in Texas, every day was a struggle to survive. One day, some people began shooting at him with a paintball gun. It was a terrible experience, but it proved to be a big turning point. The local shelter picked up Fred and posted his photo online.

Fred in rough shape before becoming a spokes pet. — Fred was malnourished and shy when he first moved into his forever home.

It just so happened that the wonderful woman who would become Fred’s Forever Mom discovered him. Fred moved from the shelter in Texas to a loving home in Michigan. His story of resilience inspired many people and he soon found himself on 62+ billboards throughout the state. On a mission to help other rescue pets, Fred required a team and launched Fred’s Friends to find them.

How Did Fred’s Friends Get Started?

Creating Fred’s Friends was not the original plan. Brought on as the “spokes pet” for Green Shield Deck Builders, Fred became a near overnight sensation! As his face began popping up on billboards, people started asking questions and showing an interest in him.

Inspired by Fred’s journey, people began asking how they could help save other pets.

Fred realized he had an opportunity to create a real impact. With the help of Green Shield Deck Builders, he started Fred’s Friends to help him save more pets just like him.
