Watch: Adam Explains - What Are Deep Steps?
What is a Deep Step?
Green Shield is proud to offer our customers add-on features for their deck projects. One of our most asked for additions is upgrading stairs from standard depth to deep step. Deep step is an offering from Green Shield that uses three deck boards instead of two - that’s 50% more step!
Deep Step is great for moving furniture onto the deck at the beginning of the season or putting it away at the end of the season. Deep Steps also make your stairs easier to climb allowing you to continue enjoying your deck even as you age. Easier to climb means deep steps can also benefit pets and children with shorter legs. More space on your stairs also means that it is easier to host by providing room for your guests to move around the deck.

Green Shield’s 4 Foot Step Standard
All Green Shield decks exceed code requirements and come standard with 4 foot wide stairs. Extra width means that you can have two directional traffic on the stairs. Four foot wide deck steps also create a higher value feel than traditional builder grade, three foot wide deck stairs.

Built with 5 Stringers and Better Posts for Added Support
More Stringers than Your Average Builder
Not all deck stairs are built the same. Green Shield builds our stairs to a higher standard than building code. Instead of the traditional four stringer supports under your staircase, Green Shield builds with five stringer supports.

Upgrade Your Deck Posts with Green Shield
Additionally, Green Shield upgrades your stair posts free of charge for added safety and peace of mind that is warrantied for a lifetime. All Green Shield posts have 250% more surface area than traditional builders grade products. Our crews build with 6x6 posts instead of 4x4 posts for the added stability and longevity of your deck. The wood quality has also been upgraded from a traditional builder’s grad post to #1 Grade Southern Yellow Pine.
