Description

Green Shield believes a deck should be more than a platform, it should be a multi-functional sanctuary. In Byron Center, Michigan, Green Shield engineered a multi-zone entertainment space designed specifically around a pool and hot tub.

The Engineering Difference:

  • Built for Access: Rather than using industry-standard narrow steps, Green Shield installed a wide-access staircase. Using three boards instead of two, these steps provide a deeper, more stable surface for guests to navigate safely.
  • Thermal Protection: The deck features variegated "Driftwood" boards. Beyond the aesthetic, these premier boards incorporate heat-blocking technology to ensure the surface stays cool for bare feet, even in direct summer sun.
  • Structural Zoning: The layout is divided into three functional zones: a sunken hot tub area, a main lounge, and a poolside space where the decking provides critical structural support for the pool coping.

To ensure safety after sunset, Green Shield installed its signature illuminated railing. This multi-colored system is built into the structure, providing the hardworking backbone needed for nighttime visibility. Green Shield provides the bridge between elite craftsmanship and a reliably engineered reality.

Hi. My name is Adam, founder and CEO of Green Shield Deck Builders. Today, I wanna take you on a deck tour. We're in Byron Center, Michigan looking at an awesome deck. It's got a pool, it's got a hot tub, it's got deep steps, we've got illuminated rail and more. Stay tuned and I'll take you on a tour throughout the whole thing. So the first thing I noticed when I walk up to this deck is this staircase not only is our standard four foot wide which is bigger than a lot of our competitors, but it's deep steps. It's really really grand. So instead of two boards, it's three boards which is super cool when you're talking entertaining in a space. Ton of people could be on this staircase at the same time. So we really really like to do that detail. It's not a lot more money and it really sharpens the look of this. If you notice, we've got a gate there, that's because of pool security. We've got a plunger lock. If you come up here, can really notice that driftwood deck board. This is a gray color with a little bit of variegation and a really really nice wood grain to it that I think it just makes this deck look really really premium. The other cool thing about this decking is it stays extremely cool. So this deck is significantly cooler than a lot of the deck boards on the market. When you come over here, we've got an interesting detail. So the customer wanted no railing around their hot tub. They just wanted their hot tub dropped down. So there's a separate deck lower, but still has that hot tub elevated. It's interesting because they're kinda like three different entertainment spaces. We got the hot tub deck, we got this deck, but then this space obviously is the pool space. So they can entertain here, they can lay out in the sun, and then you can jump in the pool, get in and out. The decking comes right under the coping and that actually helps support the coping a little bit. Another thing about this deck is it all lights up at night. So this is our green shield illuminated railing. It's got multiple colors, and what's so cool about that is when you're entertaining at night, you don't wanna be falling into the pool and things like that. Having your railing light up looks cool and it's a safety thing. It's really, really neat. So there you have it. If you have a pool in ground or above ground or you're thinking about having one installed, GreenShield has a solution for your new deck to go around it and enjoy for many years to come.
