Wood Grade

Wood Grade is used to measure the quality of wood. The lower the grade number, the better quality of wood. Most wood in North America is visually graded by professional and licensed wood graders to make sure knots and other blemishes are within standards set by the American Lumber Standard.

The Green Shield Difference

Your typical big box hardware store will carry #2 grade wood. Most contractors will purchase this #2 grade wood when building a deck project. Green Shield uses only #1 grade lumber. This means our deck framing materials have fewer knots, splits, and wane than you would expect to see at your local store or in a sub-contractors project. In addition to our manufacturers grading process, our deck experts check all the lumber again at our distribution facility, ensuring that only the best pieces make it to your job site.

"Checking the lumber multiple times before your deck is built is a key part of why Green Shield is able to offer a lifetime warranty you won't get from other deck builders."
