Wolmanized Wood (CCA)

Wolmanized Wood is a specific brand of wood preservation treatment that was popularized and widely used before 2004. After 2004 chromated copper arsenate (CCA) was phased out by the EPA and replaced with copper azole (CA-C) preservative in Wolmanized wood. Typical home owners with Wolmanized lumber in their deck will want to apply a quality water repellent every year or two to protect the wood from moisture damage.

The Green Shield Difference

Green Shield has chosen to upgrade all our decks to Kiln Dried After Treatment (KDAT) lumber instead of traditional “Wolmanized” wood. This decision was made after years of research testing the difference in longevity between “wet-wood” treated products and those that had been kiln dried after treatment. Our lumber is treated with Micronized Copper Azole (MCA), a solution that is more environmentally friendly and less toxic than Wolmanized CCA wood products.

"Green Shield has chosen to work with Micronized Copper Azole because it removes the potentially harmful arsenic found in traditional ‘Wolmanized’ wood products."
