Ledger Board

The Ledger Board is a horizontal beam that attaches your deck joists to your home. It is critical that the ledger board be properly installed and inspected to ensure that it can hold the load of the deck. Ledger boards are common points of failure for decks when improperly installed or attached to brick veneers. In fact, according to NADRA an estimated 90% of deck failures occur as the result of ledger connection failures. Always make sure your ledger board is properly attached to your home’s framing and meets local building code standards before beginning construction.

The Green Shield Difference

At Green Shield our crews are properly trained to attach your deck to the Ledger Board. This training includes learning how to properly flash to protect your home and deck against moisture. Sometimes during demolition it is discovered that your current ledger board has suffered damage from a previous structure. If any issues are found with the old ledger board Green Shield will work with you to fix them so that your new deck will last a lifetime.

"As a NADRA safety ambassador Green Shield checks your ledger board and makes sure it is in good condition and properly installed before building your new deck."
