Because Green Shield only builds decks, our crews have been specifically trained to make sure ventilation is done correctly. Our deck boards are all properly gapped to provide drainage and air flow. Spacing along the edge of your home is also checked to make sure your deck will last a lifetime. Our experience building year round in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio means your deck will be well ventilated in every season and hold up to winter snows.
Deck Ventilation
Deck ventilation is the process of building sufficient ground clearance, proper deck board gapping, and overall design considerations to allow for air and moisture circulation. Ventilation is important because it keeps moisture from getting trapped on the deck. Decks with poor ventilation can rot and decay prematurely even when built with the best materials. When moisture builds up on a deck there is also increased risk of mold and mildew. Be sure to ask your deck builder about proper ventilation before construction begins.
The Green Shield Difference
"Think of ventilation like letting your deck breathe. You can walk a lot further when breathing regularly than if you hold your breath. Your deck will last a lot longer if properly ventilated."
