Deck Posts

A deck post is a key part of your deck’s support structure and framing. Code requires at minimum a 4x4 post every 10 feet unless engineered solutions are in place. It is important to know how your deck posts are being installed because improperly built deck posts can shift and even collapse. Most sub-contractors who are properly licensed will use the cheapest 4x4 posts they can find that will pass code. Unlicensed builders who neglect to use proper 4x4 posts and placing can cause costly delays or even rebuilds of your project.

The Green Shield Difference

While most builders use 4x4s, our standard is a 6x6 post. Green Shield upgrades your deck posts to a 6x6, providing 250% more support. Thicker deck posts are crucial to provide the lifetime warranty, safety, and stability home owners deserve. Every deck post from Green Shield is pre-stained in our brown or gray color so it won’t turn green. Our crews also install Rotbloc on our posts where they make contact with the ground to protect them against moisture and insects.

"Typical 4x4 deck posts can fail prematurely and shrink over time resulting in a wavy deck. Green Shield can’t have that so your deck posts are upgraded to 6x6 posts on every single deck."
