Green Shield trains our crews to place the crowning correctly so that everything from stair stringers to your main joists remain level for a lifetime. Additionally all our lumber is sorted multiple times before it reaches your deck project. The manufacturing facility sorts the lumber before it reaches our distribution center where it is sorted again. A final sort of the lumber takes place on site by our trained craftsmen, so that only the best lumber is used on your deck.
Crowning
Crowning is the slight curve that naturally happens to wood boards. It is important that your deck builder knows about crowning and how to properly work with it. Improper installation of a deck with crowning that curves the wrong way can result in sinking over time. As the deck sinks it may form trip hazards and become unsafe. Added benefits of proper crowning are improved drainage and proper weight distribution.
